Induction – transverse waves of patriotic power,
Faraday flux of flag-wrapped charisma
Applied – ZAP – like copper-wrapped paddles:
A bolt to jolt the stuttering national heart.
We see stars,
We see stripes,
Olive-branch eagles peck the refresh key,
The pinioned packets of the streaming media ladle
Resurrection news to every beggar’s bowl of the schizoid Consciousness:
A Change of Heart prescription, the recipe
Thumbed in text from Barrack-berry to shining PC.
Undulating with the smooth silk ripples of a flag,
Arms lifted, current-stoked urgency like feeding anemone,
A polis accepts the metronome measure of neglected potency.
Lips pursed in evocation, keen the paean electric in
Visible exhalation like a cloud made of sighs.
Woven in breathy vapor intertwined above their heads,
Stringing straight from the stoked caves of lungs
And the burning muscles of unexercised Hope –
Shredded sinew attaching to bone with ligamental optimism.
Unfurl the relief map, the contours dance across the shaded page
As the landscape moulds in a lengthy tectonic wrench.
Shield smiles hammered to edgeless ironic baffles,
At least for one ice-crystal hour the handshakes and hugs
Bear a full substance and weight: the gates
They are open.
